Forklift Training In Colorado


If you are interested in applying as a forklift operator in the state of Colorado, be sure that you have taken all necessary training and exams needed for the certification. Colorado does not require a license in order to drive a forklift however, a forklift certification is needed for individuals seeking employment as a forklift operators.

As required in all states, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Req. 1910.178 require employers to train their employees and practice safe use of forklift trucks. OSHA Powered Industrial Lift Truck course is a training course designed to educate forklift operators how to use forklift trucks properly.

This course will teach employers and employees the:

  • Principles and policies of forklift safety
  • Obligations of employer and employees
  • Performance of a Forklift through an obstacle course

Training must be given by a certified instructor. Classroom discussions as well as examinations will be given after the training.

Other topics may also be included depending on the instructor and the place where you have enrolled to take the OSHA Forklift Operator Certification. As a strict compliance to the OSHA regulation, drivers below the age of 18 are not allowed to become a forklift operator. This is also to prevent accidents and other forklift related incidents that involves minors as forklift drivers.

Training for a forklift certificate must have the following implementation:

  • They are under the supervision of a person who has the knowledge, experience and skills to train operators and evaluate them.
  • Applicants must pass the training which includes a formal instruction, practical training such as hands-on driving evaluation test and an evaluation of the operator’s performance in the workplace.
  • All operators training shall be conducted by a certified instructor.

Passing all forklift training and class courses will grant applicants/students a forklift operator certificate which is valid for three years. Since there are many types of forklift trucks, it is advised to take a re-certification in case you are assigned to another truck, had or has been involved in a forklift accident, evaluated or observed to use forklifts improperly and the likes.

Forklift operators with certificate can work in warehouses, airports, industrial plants, factories and many others. They are to carry heavy materials and equipments from one place to another. Good driving skills are needed in order to maneuver these trucks so be sure that you have all qualifications that the job requires.
